REV. MCHENRY DIES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME AT TABLE GROVE - FATHER OF J. H. MCHENRY PASSED AWAY SATURDAY AFTERNOON

The Rev. R. H. McHenry, father of J. H. McHenry of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. L. Swedell at Table Grove, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. His last serious illness was of about 10 days duration.
Mr. McHenry was born in Perry Co., MO, 20 Jun 1845, & was aged 80 years at the time of his death. His parents were David and Mary McHenry.

Mr. McHenry came to Bond Co. when a young man and after working on a farm in Lagrange Twp. for about 2 years bought a farm of his own & farmed it for about 8 years. Just after he purchased this farm he married Miss Jane Stevenson, who preceded him in death in the year of 1918.

His first church connection was at Donnellson where he joined the Presbyterian church. In 1874 he joined the Vandalia Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian church and after 2 years spent in Lincoln University he was licensed to preach. His first chrage was at McDavid's Point, now the town of Coffeen. He later was pastor at Pleasant Prairie, now Sorento. He also preached at Mt. Gilead, Pocahontas and Beaver Creek. He retired from the pulpit in the spring of 1918. His last charge was at Tower Hill.

He belonged to the Odd Fellows at Biggsville & at one time was Grand Chaplain of the I.O.O.F. of the state of Illinois.

The funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning at Table Grove and the body will be brought this evening to Smithboro where it will be met and brought to the Donnell Undertaking parlors where short funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. W. C. Krebs of the Presbyterian chruch of this city. Interment will be made at the Bethel cemetery at Reno, the committal services being given by the Rev. Griscell of Reno.

The surviving sons & daughters are J. H. McHenry of this city; A. P. McHenry of Biggsville; Frank of Peoria; Mrs. C. L. Swedell of Table Grove and Mrs. W. H. Smoot of Fairmount.

He is the last of his brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Mary J. McHenry, wife of Rev. R. H. McHenry, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles L. Swedell at Table Grove, IL, August 8, 1918. Mrs. McHenry's maiden name was Mary Jane Stevenson and she was born January 17, 1845 in Cape Girardeau, MO and was 73 years old her last birthday.

Her father, George H. Stevenson, moved to Lagrange Twp. , where she was married on September 7, 1865 to Rev. R. H. McHenry, who with three sons, and two daughters survive.

The children are Mrs. Charles Swedell of Tapble Grove, Mrs. Walter Smoot of Fairmont, Albert of Biggsville, Frank of Peoria and J. H. McHenry of Greenville. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters. J.M. Stevenson of Greenville, Theodore of Lansing, Kansas, Mrs. Laura Warren of Donnellson and Mrs. M.A. Hughey of Portland, Oregon. The body was bought to Reno for burial in the Reno cemetery.
