    An excerpt from an email from Betty Cunningham after a conversation she had with Charles Paul Cunningham not long before he died:

    Son of James Cunningham and Jane Stiles (Styles) Cunningham
    His father was in the Union Army. Mother died when he was 4. He was a cooper by trade (made barrels) he also floated his wares (along with his brother) down the Mississippi to New Orleans
    The other information Charles read from a newspaper after Wm Henry died.
    Wm Henry was married three times, remarried after each wife died. His first wife was Susan Figgins , they had a son, John. She died shortly after they were married of typhoid fever.
    Then he married Marietta William Harp who had a daughter, Anne Everland. Together they had three children, Lara, Augustus (Gus) and Charles Henry.
    His third marriage was to Augusta McNeely. They met in Cape County, MO in a town called Fruitland.
    William married Augusta McNeely, daughter of George Wesley McNeely and Mary Mitchell, on 30 Sep 1900 in Cape Gir. County, MO. (Augusta McNeely was born on 16 Oct 1874 in Cape Gir. County, MO and died on 22 Dec 1963 in Chaffee, MO.)
    Together the had Ester, Paul and Miriam.
    William Henry was a circuit rider preacher (1884). He was ordained a Methodist Minister in 1886 in the St. Louis Conference. After retiring he still served as a supply preacher. He loved hunting, fishing and bird lore. He lived to be in his 90's and left a great heritage. In his old age he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Cunningham officiating. Mr. Simpson is a son of Rev. Joseph Simpson of Laflin, and is a worthy young man. His bride is a charming young lady. They were the recipients of many nice and useful presents.

    Per Charles Ray Cunningham: William Henry Cunningham – while young, was as wild as they came. Dead shot with a revolver. The following was dramatized on Death Valley Days. They show changed the settings to a gold mining town in California. Actually happened in a coal mining town in Illinois. Was diagnosed with tuberculosis and the doctor said there was nothing they could do for him. William prayed that if were healed he would spend the rest of his days serving the Lord. He held true to his word and becamea preacher.

    Mrs. Cunningham

    Mrs. Augusta Cunningham, 89 years old, of 619 Koch Avenue, died
    Sunday night at 9:45 at a nursing home. She lived with a daughter,
    Mrs. Ester Ryan.

    Mrs. Cunningham was born Oct. 16, 1874, near Jackson and was
    a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George McNeely.

    On Sept. 20, 1900, she and the Rev. W. A. Cunningham were
    married. At the time he was pastor of McLain's Chapel at Oriole.
    Mr. Cunningham served various pastorates in the district, and
    following his retirement, the couple moved to Campbell. Mr.
    Cunningham died in 1943.

    She was a member of Grace Methodist Church here.

    Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Ryan, and a son, W. Paul
    Cunningham of Dallas, Tex.

    The body is at the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home in Chaffee and
    services will be conducted there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday by the Rev.
    Roland Boone of Grace Methodist Church and the Rev. L. E. Butler of
    Chaffee. Burial is to be at Woodlawn Cemetery at Campbell.

    George W. McNeely was born in Cape Girardeau County on February 7, 1836. He is the son of John R. McNeely, a native of North Carolina. The latter was reared in his native State, and was married there to Mary Shuford, who was also a native of North Carolina, born in 1807. After their marriage they immigrated to Missouri, and settled in Cape Girardeau County in 1833. There they entered land and improved a farm, upon which Mrs. McNeely still resides. Although Mr. McNeely was a cooper by trade he managed his farm during his life, and died thereabout 1843. They were the parents of six children, four of whom are living. One son, Archibald, resides in California. The two other sons and the daughter live in Cape Girardeau County. George W. grew to manhood on his father's farm, and in 1858 was united in marriage with Marillus Hale, daughter of Thomas Hale. After his marriage Mr. McNeely rented land for a few years, but located upon the farm where he now resides in 1868, having purchased it two years previously

    Obituary

    Mrs. Mary McNeely, wife of G. W. McNeely, was born June 6, 1835. She united with the M. E. Church South, Sept. 11, 1850. She was united in marriage to G. W. McNeely on April 22, 1869, and died Jan 20, 1900, aged 64 years.

    She leaves a bereaved husband, two children and two step-children, with a host of friends and other relatives.

    The funeral was preached at Pleasant View [should be Pleasant Hill] and the body interred in the cemetary one mile east of Fruitland, Mo,. on January 21, 1900.
