    Died:
    Hugh Robert "Bob" Stevenson

The year was 1951. Hugh Robert "Rob" Stevenson was born in Jacksonville FL, and the world was graced with the presence of someone who would impact thousands of lives. That man passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in Virginia Beach, VA, after a battle with cancer that was far too short.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly; his mother, Joanna; his brother, Judd; his sons, Bryan, Clay, Grant, and Mark; and his grandchildren, Jaron, Ava, Davin, Macy, Rayne, Melanie, Daelen, Liam, Luke, and 10th grandkid, Alexander Hugh Robert Stevenson, who is due in a few weeks.

Visitation hours are Friday, June 14, 2013, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown, 1485 Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach.

There will be a casual graveside service on Saturday, June 15, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Colonial Grove, 3445 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach.

The Memorial Service is Saturday, June 15, 2013, 4:00 p.m. at Parkway Christian Center, 601 Volvo Parkway in Chesapeake. Reception to follow.

Donations may be made to the Rob Stevenson Memorial Fund, 5399 Kemps River Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

The year was 1962. Rob walked into his 6th grade classroom and spied a petite girl with cute brown hair sitting across the room. Rob said to himself, "That's the girl I'm going to marry." She thought he was a punk, but through persistence, determination, a great sense of humor, and a heart so big it enveloped everyone around him, Rob finally convinced this girl that he was worth her time. He married Beverly Kay Park in 1970. These grade school sweethearts became a lasting example of what marriage should be. Their family grew, and it became the focus of Rob's life.

He served 20 years in the Navy as an entomologist (if you don't know what that is don't let it bug you) where he turned down promotions so that he didn't have to travel away from his wife and boys. His sons eventually married, and had children of their own. Now a new generation was blessed with hours of laughter, ruffling, (a combination of rough housing and wrestling) chasing, and tickling, not to mention boundless love and a granddaddy who gave the best hugs this side of heaven.

The year was 1995. Rob walked in faith and turned his passion for Jesus into a ministry as the pastor of Acts 2 Church. The love he showed to his own family extended to encompass the lives of his church family.

He was firm with those who turned away, compassionate with those who struggled, and the most faithful of friends.

He had a servant's heart and was always there to help those in need, whether they needed a car repaired, furniture moved, a prayer of faith, or just a shoulder to lean on.

He was quick to hug, quick to cry, and his easy laughter brought joy and lit up the room. As a pastor he was the living embodiment of right living. As a father he was always there for his sons, and they never lacked for a loving touch or a word of wisdom. As a husband he was selfless, doting, and deeply in love. As a man -- he was the greatest.

The year was 2013. Rob walked into the throne room of God. With arms wrapped in a mighty embrace around his Savior he heard the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
