Infirmities of old age brought about the death of R. W. McNeely of Allenville,this morning at 6 o'clock at his home on a farm near that place. Mr. McNeely had reached the age of 82 years.
He leaves two sons, five daughters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The sons are Bana McNeely, who lives near Allenville, and D. D. McNeely of Cape Girardeau. The daughters are Mrs. Ollie Morton of Fruitland, Mrs. Elma Kinder of Advance, Mrs. Octa Kinyon of Delta, Mrs. Celia Hibbs of Advance, and Mrs. Chlora Revelle with whom he lived near Allenville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, from the Fairview church at Allenville. He will be buried in the cemetery near that place.

Was a Cooper by trade. - per Goodspeed's History of Southeast Missouri, pub 1880, page 781.

George W. McNeely was born in Cape Girardeau County on February 7, 1836. He is the son of John R. McNeely, a native of North Carolina. The latter was reared in his native State, and was married there to Mary Shuford, who was also a native of North Carolina, born in 1807. After their marriage they immigrated to Missouri, and settled in Cape Girardeau County in 1833. There they entered land and improved a farm, upon which Mrs. McNeely still resides. Although Mr. McNeely was a cooper by trade he managed his farm during his life, and died thereabout 1843. They were the parents of six children, four of whom are living. One son, Archibald, resides in California. The two other sons and the daughter live in Cape Girardeau County. George W. grew to manhood on his father's farm, and in 1858 was united in marriage with Marillus Hale, daughter of Thomas Hale. After his marriage Mr. McNeely rented land for a few years, but located upon the farm where he now resides in 1868, having purchased it two years previously

Based on Archibald's will his brother John had son James. If this is Archibald's brother then son James. Anne Chase believes this James is son of David McNeely of Rowan County. David has a James. John does not mention James in will, however that does not eliminate the possibility of James being his son. John's will does not list daughter Elinor and possibly another daughter as well. SEE NOTES ON JAMES FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.

1778 tax list of Rowan does not include James hence was not 18 years old. 1787 tax list does include James age 26 would be born 1761.


The late Betty Mills (Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society) thinks James married 2 times, Elizabeth 2 wife, probably correct if age is correct tax list of I787 includes male 3 and female 26)
