1302 By David Moncol:

Evan Ragland, Jr., of St Peter's parish, New Kent County, Virginia, was born in New Kent County in 1683 and was probably the eldest son of Evan Ragland, Sr. and Susanna Pettus. Very few details of his life surviveed; however, from available records a somewhat general reconstruction of his life is posssible. Evan appears to have spent his entire life in New Kent County and to have owned several hundred acres along the northren side of the Chickahominy River. His land, which was adjacent to the plantation of his brother, Thomas, was undoubtedly the same land which he inherited from his father. The vestry minutes reveal that in 1723 he was appointed the road gang superintendent for the southwestern part of New Kent County, a minor, but responsible position which required him to oversee the maintenance of roads in that part of the county. None of the records revel the name of Evan's wife or the date of their marriage. Howveer, he is known to have been single in 1705 but married by 1709. Evan is men

1303 By Rob Lewis:

In Andrew's letter to President U.S. Grant in 1872 (see image attached) he states "With 5 sons I entered the Army in 1861., and adhered faithfully to the cause during the entire rebellion, -- two of my sons bit the dust fighting under Sherman..."

The one of the two sons was probably Wesley. I have only found colaborating records of brothers John, Jonathan, and Henry Clay serving in the 40th Regiment, Co. H, Illinois Infantry. Sanford served in 17th Regiment, Co. H, Indiana Infantry. I have only found one record - possibly of Wesley - a draft registraion of W P Casebolt in 1863 in the 13th Congressional District - the southern-most counties in Illinois. The only other record I found of him is in the 1850 Census as a son of A.M. Casebolt, who is at this point married to his third wife Esther. All of the sons are from his first wife, Louisa Sampson.

All of the other sons - Sanford, John, Jonathan, and Henry Clay survived the war and had families.

Perhaps I have not found another brother??

1304 BYRD, Cindy
Jan. 29, 1962 - Apr. 20, 2010
Born Jan. 29, 1962 in Long Beach, CA, lost her long courageous battle with cancer on Apr. 20, 2010. Cindy is survived by her mother Norma Byrd; father Don Byrd; sister Terri Byrd; nephews, Aric and Sean Lehr; brother-in-law Jorge Lehr; stepmom LaVaughn Wilson; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Cindy will be remembered for her ability to make people laugh and her determination to see that everything was done her way. Her greatest accomplishment was building her own home through a sweat equity program that took her a year while holding down a full time job at Rite Aid for which she never missed a day of work while doing so. Cindy has several loyal friends from Ponderosa High School, as well as from her 25-plus years of work at Rite Aid. Placerville has been her home for 40 years. Cindy was the best daughter, sister, and auntie anyone could ask for and we will all miss her smile greatly. At her request, there will be no memorial service; however, a BBQ celebration of her life will be held on Sat

1306 C. Donald Dorsey

Don Dorsey was loved by all who knew him. It might have been his exceptional margarita-making skills that drew people to him, but we suspect it was his irreverent sense of humor, great belly laugh, and generous nature. Surrounded by family, he departed this world too soon on May 3, after a short illness, at the age of 76. He hated to leave his beloved San Diego, where he walked to Padres games and his favorite restaurants and watched the ships go in and out from his balcony.

Great with numbers, Don was quick as lightning on a 10-key, and he never forgot his CPA roots. He “retired” in 1999 from PETsMART, but remained active as an advisor and investor for a wide variety of retail and consumer companies in the development stage. He loved the challenge and excitement of working with start-ups.

Don’s greatest professional success was helping guide PETsMART’s expansion from seven stores to more than 500 as CFO and Executive Vice President, turning the company into the top pet store chain in the country. Don was honored by his beloved alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis, in 2004, with the Distinguished Business Alumni Award. He received his BSBA in 1964, and returned to his native St. Louis often for WUSTL events.

Don was accompanied on his many business and travel adventures by Lydia, his wife of 35 years, whom he adored. He is survived by Lydia, four children: daughter Lisa (Ken) Stewart, daughter Christy (Randy) Grafton, son Eric (Lynn) Bazarnic, and son Cliff (Zoja) Bazarnic. He was a fun-loving and occasionally mischievous grandfather to 10 wonderful grandchildren: Cody, Cassidy, Caitlin, Ethan, Declan, Trey, Sophia, Annika, Elsie, and Archer. The only child of Charles and Minnie Dorsey, who preceded him in death, Don lived in St. Louis until 1974.

When he wasn’t traveling the world, golfing, watching the game, or on a conference call, he was enjoying the good life with Lydia, family and a wonderful circle of friends in San Diego and the Phoenix area.

A lover of long luxury cruises, Don takes all of our love with him on his final cruise into the sunset.

A private service will be held in Phoenix for immediate family. Friends and family may pay their respects at a celebration of life on Wednesday, May 9, at 1:00 PM. In honor of Don, no ties, please. Memorial donations may be made to two of Don’s favorite causes: Father Joe’s Village in San Diego and Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa, Arizona.

1364 Cape Teacher Found Unconscious Beside Auto on Visit Home

Miss Bessie McNeely, a teacher in May Greene School, Friday evening drove to Leemon to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. McNeely. After placing her automobile in the garage at the home, she went into the house, but recalling that she had left a package in the vehicle she went back to the garage.
When she failed to return to the house the family became alarmed and went to look for her. She was found lying on the ground near her automobile and was carried to the house, where she remained unconscious until this morning. A physician who was called could not determine what had occurred, but there was no indication of any violence.
It was reported this afternoon she had regained consciousness after being unconscious all night and her family said she appeared to be some better. They are puzzled, as is the physician as to what occurred, as she had been in good health and had not been ill lately. Miss Alma Schrader, principal of the May Greene School, said Miss McNeely appeared well Friday when she left school. She has taught a number of years in the school system and is regarded as one of the more proficient instructors.

1379 Celebrating the decades
Sunday, October 30, 2005
Rudi Keller ~ Southeast Missourian

On a late October day bathed in sunshine, four old friends shared a picnic and a peek at the past.
At the Academic Hall terraces, Freeman and Alice Lewis sat on the grass by Irlene and Bill Abram eating bratwurst, coleslaw and cake. Their memories of Southeast Missouri State University stretch back through the years, to when thr school was called Southeast Missouri State Teachers College.
Freeman Lewis graduated in 1949, finishing an education interrupted by the Imperial Japanese Navy. He operated Wimpy's Drive-In in Cape Girardeau after he graduated.
Irlene Abram graduated in 1942, moved to St. Louis County and worked as a kindergarten teacher in Ritenour, while Bill Abram flew military transports.
Homecoming 2005 at the university adopted the theme "Same Places, New Faces," but also focused on the upcoming 100th anniversary of Academic Hall. Participants in the homecoming parade included representatives of the university's past back to 1930.
Campus fraternities and sororities constructed floats celebrating those decades.
For Matthew Parker, standing with sister Lily and parents Donna and Shawn Parker on Broadway near Main Street, the 1950s float was the best. "2 Kool 4 Skool" the float said on the side, and Matthew agreed. "It was cool," he said.
For Leigha and Lori Douglas, viewing the parade with mother Della Douglas and friend Laura Simmons, the color guard waving flags in front of each marching band was the most exciting.
Leigha said that's what she's going to do when she's older. Lori said she will, too. "I'm going to do what my Sissy does," she said.
The top float, according to judges, was the Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Chi Omega's 1940s-themed float, which featured Academic Hall and a prop-driven fighter airplane. The small float competition was won by a combined effort of the Student Government Association, the Student Activities Council and the Rowdy Crowd, the campus pep club. The sponsor's pick of the parade, chosen by Southeast Bookstore, was the 1970s-themed float from Sigma Nu and Alpha Delta Pi that featured disco dancers and rollerskaters.
All of the floats included a representation of Academic Hall.
When Academic Hall was under construction, the university was known as the Third District Normal School, an institute for training teachers. All of the operations were combined in the building that replaced the school's first structure following a fire in1902.
Tour groups got a rare look inside the dome on top of Academic Hall, led by Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Center for Regional History. The top of the dome is 68 feet above the roof of the building, and makes a statement about the permanency of the school in Cape Girardeau.
"They wanted a building that would make a grand statement," Nickell said. "A building that would stabilize the college and no one could move."
The beams, hewn out of poplar trees from the region, are held together by fitted construction, Nickell said.
The beams bear the marks of past visitors to the dome, with one dating back to 1911, Nickell said.
There would be more marks, Freeman Lewis said, if he and other members of his fraternity hadn't been employed in the fall of 1941 to wipe them away and clean the dome.

Notes for James Willhoit:
LUTIE, now known as Theodosia, was named in 1893 by its first postmaster, Lucius Vernon. The old Theodosia post office, founded in 1886, was abandoned in 1951 because of the rising waters of the Bull Shoals Lake. As the recreation industry grew in the area, so did recognition of the name, Theodosia, until citizens of the area decided to change the name of their post office from Lutie to Theodosia. Now the old Lutie settlement is recalled by the name of the cemetery and the school district serving the area.
LUTIE CEMETERY: There are more than 400 graves in this cemetery which lies along Highway 160 between the Theodosia United Methodist Church and the True Hope General Baptist Church. The cemetery was dedicated in 1867 by James and Mary Jane Friend and stillbears the name of the old Lutie community which was settled during the early 1860's.

Cewice
(German: Zewitz) is a village in Lębork County, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Cewice.[2] It lies approximately 13 kilometres (8 mi) south of Lębork and 59 km (37 mi) west of the regional capital Gdańsk.

Before 1945 the area was part of Germany. For the history of the region, see History of Pomerania.

The former Brandenburg-Prussian Pomerania and the former Swedish parts were reorganized into the Prussian Province of Pomerania, while Pomerelia in the partitions of Poland was made part of the Province of West Prussia. With Prussia, both provinces joined the newly constituted German Empire in 1871. Following the empire's defeat in World War I, Pomerelia became part of the Second Polish Republic (Polish Corridor) and the Free City of Danzig was created. Germany's Province of Pomerania was expanded in 1938 to include northern parts of the former Province of Posen–West Prussia, and in 1939 the annexed Polish territories became the part of Nazi Germany known as Reichsgau Danzig-West Prussia.
