Mrs. Emma Weiss, 80 Dies
Rites to Be Tuesday

Mrs. Emma Weiss, 80 years old, wife of the late August Weiss, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Malinda Kurre, 1865 Broadway, following an illness of eight months of a heart condition.
Funeral services will be conducted a 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Hanover Lutheran Church with the pastor, Rev. Wm. Wittrock, in charge. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetary. The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday from the Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home.
Born in Cape Girardeau, April 20. 1869, she was the last of 10 children of the Wm. Regenhardt family. She was married to Mr. Weiss on July 11, 1889, and he died five years ago. They resided on a farm in the Hanover community until 11 years ago when they moved to a residence on Perry avenue. For the past two years she has made her home with her daughter. Mrs. Weiss was a life-long member of Hanover Church being confirmed on April 2, 1889. She was a charter member of the Hanover Lutheran Ladies Aid and was very active in the organization until eight months ago when she became ill.

1505 Dau Elizabeth R. had a son, called John Woodfin, out of wedlock in 1781 in Greenbrier Co.
The father was an army officer, Archibald Woods. When Woodfins left Greenbrier early in 1783, Woods left for KY, having multiple wives. "John Woodfin," son of Elizabeth, named one of his sons Archibald Woods Woodfin.

John, son of Elizabeth, subsequently lived in that part of Buncombe which became Henderson Co. He married Mary Grady and raised nine children at Mills River in Haywood Co NC. Two of their sons became attorneys: son Nicholas Washington Woodfin "was a brilliant Civil War era lawyer in Buncombe;" Woodfin village, and Woodfin Street in Asheville, are named for him.

Elizabeth was not prosecuted, having left Greenbrier with her brother
Thomas, for Cocke Co TN (then NC). There she married Thomas Abel, a Rev War veteran DAR Records citing Thomas Abel's wife as Katie Woodfin, are incorrect, perhaps attempting to hide the birth of Elizabeth's son John.

Pension Application for Thomas Abel of Haywood Co NC, June 1839, and Affidaits; Will of Thomas Abel, Haywood Co NC Court of Pleas, 29 Aug 1822; Greenbrier Co VA Court Orders of 23 Aug 1783.

Son Thomas & wife Hannah, and Thomas Abel & wife Elizabeth Woodfin, moved to Buncombe Co. c1790-91, from Cocke Co TN where the two families attended the same Baptist Church.

1522 David McNeely

David arrived in Rowan County, North Carolina by 1768. He is on the Rowan County Tax List for that year.

We assume he migrated from Pennsylvannia. He owned land adjacent to Archibald McNeely and John McNeely Sr. in the 1770’s. The naming of his children indicate a relation with an Adam, perhaps of Lancaster County, PA. We have found no documentation prior to North Carolina although a Matthew of Bucks County had a son David. - source "McNeelys of Northwest Missouri" by Maurice McNeely

David’s will recorded in Book E page 77 of Rowan County, probated 1805. Abstract as listed by Linn:

E:77 David McNeeely, 14 May 1801, probated 1805. Sons Adam, John and Timothy each to have 2 pounds, Timothy being under age. Son James to have home plantation. 2 pounds each to daughters Margaret and Agnes. Daughter Jean to have personalty incl. red chest and all the pewter and 12 pounds. Executors: son-in-law John McNeely, son James. Wit: James Bell, Samuel McNeely.
(Abstracts of Wills, Rowan County, NC, Jo White Linn)

Agnes married William Kilpatrick, son of John and Elizabeth (McKnight) Kilpatrick. James McNeely was the Bondsman.

1574 DEATH OF ARNOLD BREMMERMANN.
------------------
One of Butler’s Best and Most Honorable Citizens Gone to Rest.
------------------
On last Sabbath the 18th the mortal remains of Arnold Bremmerman were interred in the Butler Cemetery. Mr. Bremmermann was a native of Germany; he was a man of more than ordinary intellectual ability. He was at the time of his death not quite 34 years old.

He first came to Bates county about 13 years ago, and was for some time employed as a clerk in dry goods store in Butler. Afterward he was engaged as traveling salesman for a wholesale firm in St. Louis,

Returning to Butler some 10 years ago, he has since that time been employed as deputy in several of the county offices, he was also a clerk in the Bates county National Bank. More recently he was a partner with P. J. Jewett, in the furniture business. A few months ago finding his health failing, he disposed of his interest in the furniture store to his partner in hope that rest and recreation would bring him renewed vigor, but alas, that fell destroyer Consumption had lain hold of him and on Friday March 16 1883 at 10 o’clock A. M. he calmly and peacefully sank to rest. Deceased was an active and worthy member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

The citizens of Butler and community manifested their appreciation of his worth in one of the largest funeral processions that was ever seen in the city. The hearse was preceded to the cemetery by over one hundred and twenty members of the Order of Odd Fellows in regalia, with emblems draped in mourning, headed by the Butler Silver Cornet Band.

The hearse was followed by one-hundred and fifteen vehicles bearing relatives, friends and acquaintances besides a large number on foot. On the way and at the grave the band played very appropriate and solemn dires.

At the grave the beautiful and impressive funeral service of the Order of Odd Fellows was read by Judge Lefker, acting chaplin. Deceased leaves a wife and one child to mourn his loss.

1577 Death visited the home of Solomon Franklin King near Brunot on Mill Creek in Madison County, Missouri, Sept 29, 1917 at 9 o'clock where he had lived for 65 years. Uncle Saul was born at Memphis, TN. Apr 4, 1829, and came to Missouri, locating at Current River when but a boy where he lived but a year, moving from there to Madison County, where he has lived ever since. Solomon King and Permelia Isabelle Ross were united in marriage on 20 Mar 1853. They came to their present home on Apr 7, 1853. The came with one horse and their posessions slung to a pack saddle. To this marriage were born 6 children, of which 4 survive him. 2 sons: Earl and Henry, and two daughters;Melvina and Nancy Young from near Fredericktown, MO.: 29 grandchildren: 21 great grandchildren. We are all pleased that God spared Uncle Saul to see so many generations in his family, a blessing not given to many.
Uncle Saul endured hardships in his early married life that would make the young men of today very much discouraged. Uncle Saul shouldered his axe many, many times and walked from his home to Ironton, MO.,where he cut cordwood for 30 cents a cord in orderto buy necessary food for himself and his loved ones at home who now survive him. Uncle Saul has been a man of great endurance and always believed in a square deal to all men and practiced his belief with all men whom he came in contact with.
Uncle Saul has been almost helpless for about 3 years and his wife bedfast for the last 2 years. Their daughter Melvina, has cared for them throughout their illnesses and she is truly worthy of great commendation. Uncle Saul was the oldest citizen of Madison County and was loved by all who knew him. He was always the man that would lose five dollars than to take one from any man. On Sunday morning Sept 30th 1917, over 300 people came to the home of Uncle Saul to pay their last respects to the memory of their friend and neighbor.

The death of Mrs.Eliza Hill, wife of H.W.Hill, occurred on Sunday morning at 8:30 oclock at the family residence on Pine street. It was not unexpected. Mrs. Hill has been ill since the first of March and during the past week or more her condition has beencritical and the final dissolution was looked for at any time. Death was the result of old age and general debility.

Mrs.Hill was a native of Rowan county,N. Carolina where she was born on March 20, 1819. She was the daughter of James and Jane Stevenson and with her parents moved to Cape Giradeau county, Missouri when only seven months old. While a resident of that county she was married in 1843 to Hugh W. Hill.

Mrs. and Mrs. Hill left Cape Girardeau county in 1860 and settled in Montgomery county where they resided until 1866 when they came to Macon county. They first lived on W. William street, but later built the beautiful home at the end of Prairie Ave. on Pine street and have since made their home there.

Of the six children born to them only one is living, John N. Hill of Macon, who has been constantly at his mothers bedside with his aged father for several days past. Besides her husband Mrs. Hill is survived by nine grandchildren five children of John N.Hill, who resides with their parents near Macon and Hugh, Gussie and Emma Bone and Mrs. L. A. Mills all of this city.

Mrs. Hill has been a member of the Presbyterian church since girlhood. Her life has been one of devotion to her husband and family. One by one with the exception of a son she has suffered the loss of her own children and the love she so richly bestowed onthem was transferred to her granchldren, to whom she has been more than a grandmother. Her simple life of devotion to the best that there is in womanhood and motherhood, her gentle generous neighborly interest in the welfare of her friends have earned for her not only the respect but the love and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. She has left to her family and friends the priceless heritage of a life well lived.

The funeral services will be held at 3 oclock this afternoon from the residence, 212 N. Pine street and the services will be conducted by Revs. W.H.Prestley and W.H. Penhallegon. The casket will be open from 10 am until 12 noon for the friends of the family wishing to view the remains.

1593 Departed this life in Cape Girardeau Co., Mo., 14th of May, 1837, Mr. John Stevenson, husband of Elizabeth Stevenson, in the 49th year of his age. He was taken sick the night his wife lay a corpse, and was removed next day to his brother's Mr. James Stevenson, where he died, after an illness of only 6 or 7 days. Mr S. was also a member of Brazeau church, Perry Co. and was regarded by all who knew him as a man in which whose heart the seeds of God's grace had been planted and watered by the renewing, sanctifying, and genial influences of the Holy Spirit. Whilst the tears of the bereaved children still flowed freely for a tender and affectionate mother, new fountains were opened by the sudden death of the beloved and
pious father.

This is indeed an afflictive dispensation of Providence to this bereaved family; but they mourn not as those who have no hope. Mr. S a few hours before he died, put on his spectacles, called for his hymnbook, selected a hymn and requested his mourning friends to sing it. The writer was present when his spirit bade adieu to its clay tenement, and well may it be said of his "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace."

Mrs. Fleming and Mr. Stevenson were brother and sister. This singular and mysterious providence loudly admonishes all the friends of the deceased, as well as all other, of the mortality of man, and the necessity of being prepared for a deathbed and a dying hour.
May the Lord, who sits as a sovereign on his throne, bless, comfort and sustain the bereaved.
