He was a retired farmer. He lived to be 77 years old. His father was John Martin (also born in MO.). His mother was Liza Jane Breeden born in Missouri. He lived in Meta for 40 years and became a widow when Amanda died. Information from the death certificate.'
Suggested correction from FAG member 47347600:
The informant on his death certificate was in error. Elijah's father was George Washington Martin and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Breeden/Breeding. Elijah appeared in 1860 census in their household with his siblings. He appears in 1870 census in HH of his maternal grandparents, Elijah Breeden and Patsy (Roark) Breeden with his mother and siblings.
His father died presumably between 1865 - 1870, no record found. He served with the Missouri Home Guard on the side of the Union. His mother died after 1880, again, no record found, but she was a widow in Elijah's HH in 1880 census.
