- Mrs. Richard King, a member of two prominent South Texas pioneer families and a social and civic leader died today. She was the wife of Richard King whose grandfather, Capt. Richard King, founded the King Ranch. Her father, Dr. Alfred Heaney was a Corpus Christi physician before the turn of the century. A lifelong Corpus Christi resident, she and her husband had made their home at the stately King residence at 611 S. Upper Broadway for many years. She organized the Civic Music Association 31 years ago and served as its permanent president. She was an active member of the Phillips Brooks Guild at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal and was the founder of the Order of De Pineda, which presents debutantes at a formal dance each Christmas season. The group presented its first debutantes in 1938. Her sister, Mrs. Roy Miller, wife of the former mayor and champion of port development, died in February, 1965.
