- JOHN F. TRICKEY, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, BURIED AT APPLE CREEK FEBRUARY 5.
John F. Trickey, aged 88 years, 10 months and 29 days, died at the home of his son, near Leemon, on February 4th, and was buried at Old Apple Creek the following day.
The deceased was born March 6th, 1831. He was married in his early years to a Miss Martin, of Bollinger County. To this union were born two children, one of whom, Frank Trickey, is still living and now resides at Cape Girardeau. The other, a daughter, died early in life.
When the Civil War started, Mr. Trickey enlisted with the Union army and served until the war was over. On November 29, 1868, he was again married to Miss Eliza J. Clodfelter. To this union were born three children, all of whom are still living—Charles W., Amos T., and Mary J., who married Thomas Reed.
Surrounded by three sons and the daughter, twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a number of friends, he was laid to rest in Old Apple Creek Cemetery, wearing his G. A. R. uniform. Some years ago he set aside funds to take care of himself in his declining years, and enuf to defray his funeral expenses, but during one of the Liberty Loan drives he withdrew this money from the bank and invested in Liberty Bonds, saying: “I fought for my country once, but this is all that I can do now.”
