James William (went by Bill) Lewis was the third of five known children of Daniel Lewis (1855-1931) and the widow Christa Ann Charlton (Carlton?) (went by Christiana) (1843-1898), who married 28 Mar 1875 at Iron County, Missouri. Christiana was first married to William Jasper Stevenson (went by Jasper) (1839-c1873-1875) in c1863 in presumably Wayne County, Missouri with whom she had four known children.
Bill married Mary Ellen Kohn (1887-1963) on 11 Sep 1903 at Ironton, Iron County, Missouri. Bill and Mary were the parents of:
