William Stephen Satterwhite, CSA Fourth Sgt. in Samuel G. Clayton’s Co. A, Russell County Home Guard. b. 1814, Jasper County, GA d. 1901, Russell Co, AL. m. 2 Nov 1834, Troup County, GA, Nancy Elizabeth Collins b. 1818 d. 1890. Her father was Mr. Seaborn Collins, in the 1830 Harris Co. GA. census. David Satterwhite and Seaborn Collins were neighbors. William Stephen Satterwhite is listed as Head of Household in 1840 Troup Co. GA. census. In 1860 he sold his land in Russell Co. AL to Mr. S. S. Brinson and bought the land back later. He sold his land in Russell Co., AL to Mr. Coleman in 1867. 1874: He bought the Crawford Hotel from R. P. Baldwin, Russell Co. AL. 1878: He bought land four miles northwest of Crawford, AL. Grave marker in Crawford, AL. “Wm S. ‘Uncle Billy’ Satterwhite”.
William S. Satterwhite married Nancy Elizabeth Collins at age seventeen in Troup Conuty Georgia later moving to Russell County Alabama.
They had six children; two died in the civil war:
1. W. H. Satterwhite KIA at Vicksburg in July of 1863.
2. J. W. C. Satterwhite died at Point Clear near Mobile while on his way home in 1863.
3. Dr. Isaac Satterwhite who went to Arkansas then to Oklahoma.
4. Sarah J Satterwhite who married 1st Mr. R. Flournoy and later married Mr. H. White.
5. Monroe G. Satterwhite.
