He was born May 20, 1924, in Paoli, Ind., son of the late Clifford Banks Elrod and Blanche (Garloch) Elrod.
He was united in marriage to Yvonne Lewis May 21, 1944. She survives and resides in Piedmont.
Mr. Elrod had been manager of Piedmont Furniture and Hardware in Piedmont for 17 years. He served on the Piedmont City Council for 31 years. He currently owned and operated Piedmont Furnace & Air Conditioning. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Piedmont.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kenny (Sally) Elrod, Piedmont; one daughter, Debbie (Bob) Griffin, Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Wanda Edwards, Judy (Gene) Eaton, all of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Kent Elrod, Keri Elrod, molly Griffin; one great-grandson, Kaden Banks Elrod.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy "Punch" Elrod and Donald W. Elrod, and one sister, Betty Elrod.
The funeral was held Nov. 29 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Brother Don Hutto officiating. Eulogy was delivered by Dennis Hovis.
Serving as pallbearers were Kenny Elrod, Kent Elrod, Matthew Griffin, David Gayle, Dennis Hovis and Dennis Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Marion Luna, Clecy Hicks and Bob Bushong. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery, Des Arc.
