- Kathryn passed away on November 16th, 2012. Born Kathryn Jurisic in Lika Croatia, she moved at an early age with
her family to British Columbia, Canada.
At the end of World War II she met her husband, Merchant Marine Seaman Arthur Engelbrecht, on a blind date. They married two years later, were together for 65 years living in San Francisco, Houston, and retiring to their dream home in the hills of Sonoma.
Kay never lost her love for Croatian culture, the food, the people, and the Tamburitza music she enjoyed with her husband for many years. Her many talents included work as a seamstress, buying and selling real estate, painting with oils, music, and most of all cooking. She won many awards for her gourmet recipes, and hand wrote hundreds of others to go with an extensive library of cookbooks from which she enjoyed planning meals for family and friends of whom she will be remembered for her generous, loving and passionate heart.
She is survived by her husband, Art, daughter Janet, son Art Jr., his wife Donna, and grandson Quincy. A memorial service is being held at Alma Via, 515 Northgate Dr., San Rafael, Tuesday, November 20th at 2 p.m.
