Notes: He was the oldest child of Wilhelm and Caroline Allers Huters. He was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in 1868 under the name "Heinrich Wilhelm Huters." He attended the Lutheran school of Cape Giradeau. He attended St. Vincent's College for a shorttime. He was fond of outdoor sports and conducted gymnasium classes at "Turner Hall" in Cape Girardeau for a number of years. He was clerk, and later manager, for "Union Mills." His occupation is listed as "Clerk in Mill" in the 1880 Federal Census. In about 1887 he purchased a Mill [Huters Brothers Mill] at the corner of Good Hope and Fredrick Streets, but operated it only a short time before selling out to other parties. He began his career as a shoe merchant in 1893. He became a Mason in 1880, was elected to every office in his local Lodge. He was elected a Knight Templar, a higher degree in Masonry. He was elected to every office in that organization, and became Grand Commander of the Knights Templar in Missouri in 1905-1906.
