CHAS. LEWIS PASSES AWAY
Cancer Is Fatal To Prominent Man
One of south Iron County's best known and beloved characters died last Friday in the passing of Mr. Chas. Lewis. He had been a sufferer only a comparatively short time from a fatal cancer under his arm. About two months ago he went to the hospital and had the small growth removed. He was never able thereafter to be up very much and gradually grew weaker and the suffering worse as death approached.
Mr. Lewis was a member for about 30 years of the Baptist church at Annapolis and one of its most faithful servants and, as some said, 'pillars.' He was a board member of the newly organized cemetery association and a very interested worker for the short time he got to serve. He had not been an active farmer for the last two or three years because of not feeling so well, but had engaged in stock hauling and buying until rather recently.
Mr. Lewis was born on July 12, 1886 and died on January 21 at the age of 57 years, 6 months and 5 days. In 1907, he married Hattie Warncke to which union was born six children. One of these died in infancy. The wife and the remaining children survive. They are Mrs. Irma Mann, Aurlin and Jesslyn, of Annapolis, Otis and Jimmy of St. Louis. There are four grandsons besides a host of other relatives and many, many friends, who are saddened at his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Union church at 2 p.m. Rev. Seal preached the sermon and Rev. Joe Alcorn assisted in the service. A group of singers from the community sang several hymns. Interment was in the Annapolis cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and seven children as above named and four grandchildren, two of whom made their home with the grandparents. E.A. and Elizabeth Terrell; two sisters, Ethel Ruble, of Des Arc, and Ollie Stevenson of Detroit, and many other relatives and friends.
She was converted and joined the Baptist Church in her early womanhood. She was a faithful and devoted Christian and wife and mother to the end.
Funeral services were held at the Union Church in Annapolis Sunday afternoon with Rev. LaChance of the Nazarene Church in Charge. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with White and Sons officiating.
Our sincere sympathy is offered to the sorrowing ones.

Jesslyn Jean Lewis of Ironton, Mo., passed away on May 30, 2020, at the age of 93 years, 2 months, 3 days. She was born March 27, 1927, in Annapolis, Mo., a daughter of the late Charles and Hattie (Warncke) Lewis.

She is survived by four nephews, and one niece. Preceding her in rest are three brothers; Aurlin Lewis, Olan “Jim” Lewis, Otis “Pete” Lewis, one sister Erma Mann.

Jesslyn was a high school graduate at Annapolis High School. She worked at the Annapolis Postal Office and retired as Post Master after many years of dedicated service. FARMINGTON – Anna Ruth "Ruthie" Black, of Farmington, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center in Farmington at the age of 80 years. She was born on January 25, 1937, at Poplar Bluff, daughter of the late Alf and Bernice Chilton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Chilton.

Ruthie was a great homemaker and loved all kinds of sports, swimming, dancing, music festivals, camping, boating and gardening.

Ruthie is survived by her husband Charles "Gene" Black of Farmington; five children, Teresa Black-Miller, Bruce Black, Barry Black, Byron (and Donna) Black, and Lisa Black-Crawford; grandchildren Amy (and Mark) Rosello, Emily (and Greg) Bach, Dillon Crawford, and Cody Crawford; great-grandchildren Marley, Clayton, Wyatt, Mazie, and Genevieve; a brother, David Chilton of Bonne Terre, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends and neighbors.

Services for John C Pingilley of 3411 Magnolia Court, Bettendorf, are 11:30 AM Monday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 8:00 PM Sunday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Mr. Pingilley died Wednesday at home.

He was born December 20, 1924, in Esther, Missouri. He married Mary Lou Denger in 1947 in Davenport; she died in 1982.

He worked at McKee Bakery, Collegedale, Tenn. Before that, he worked 19 years at Lucky Food Stores.
He enjoyed woodworking.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Anderson, Dubuque, Iowa; sons John T. Pingilley, Bettendorf, and Thomas Pingilley, Ottumwa, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; his mother, Lena Pingilley, East Detroit, Michigan; sisters, Maxine, Wilma, Doris, Merle, Burl, Pat and Lois; and brothers, Caree and Don.

Donald Pingilley, of Warren, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born December 27, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Lena Pingilley. Beloved husband of Lucille. Dearest father of Barry, Mike (the late Tina), Brian, and Kevin (Wendy). Loving grandfather of Steve, Ryan, Matthew, Kirsten, Lyric, and Landon and great grandfather of Carter. Dear brother of Lois (Larry) Ott, Patricia Pingilley, and Myrl (the late Robert) Hessenbruch and brother-in-law of Clinton Smith, Emma (the late Bud) Hotaling, Wanda (the late Tom) Hoy, Carol (Dan) Mathison, and Joanne (the late Estel) Smith.
Donald honorably and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp. After leaving the service, Donald was a dedicated employee of Consumer's Energy for 31 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing on Long Lake in Cheboygan where he spent many childhood summers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Phillip is survived by three children; Kathy, Michael, and Billy, one brother Larry Lewis, and one sister Marilyn Lombardi of Wentzville, MO; four grandchildren, Amanda, Nichole, Zach, Ashley, several great grandchildren, and many other loving family and friends.
