HESEMANN FAMILY HISTORY

The original farm near Beemont, Missourii was homesteaded by Charles and
Mary Ann Davis on a Land Grant by President James Buchanan, dated June 70,
I857, consisting of 160 acres. On March 25, 1865, this land was sold to
Frederick Hesemann for a sum of $1,000. The records mention a Catherine as
his wife on April 18, 1870, when ten acres was sold to Anna Kemper and after
Frederick’s death in 1871, in a will filed August 22, 1871, his wifie, Maria .
Elizabeth, is names as Executrix. We are not sure how to explain this discrepancy
in names. According to the will, the farm was left to Frederick W.
Hesemann, his son, and $100 each to three daughters, Catherine F., Francisca
S.C., and Catherine M.

William and Caroline Christina Ploenniger [Plieninger] were probably married in the
early 1870's. Her sister, Mrs. Catherine Ruby, lived in the house just west
of the M.E. Zion church which is still standing today and according to Oscar
Hesemann, she could very well have written her mother back in Germany encouraging
her sister Caroline, to come over knowing that William was in need of a wife.

Upon the death of Anna Kemper, the ten acres from the original farm were deeded back
to the then listed owner of record William Hesemann on March 6, 1879. We do not know
if Frederick W. Hesemann is also William Hesemann or if they are two different people
and William purchased the land from Frederick.

William and Catherine had thirteen children, three of whom died in infancy.
On April 1, 1882, according to the records, they donated the land for the
church and cemetery in Beemont, Missouri. Their daughter, Louise, was one of
two babies to be the first baptized in the new church.

William, Sr. was killed in a train accident near Jeffersberg [Jeffriesburg], Missouri,
on July 28, 1904 while going to the World's Fair in St. Louis, at the age of
53. His son, Edward, was with him on this trip. William's death left Catherine
to to finish raising the family, although her youngest, Oscar, was eleven at the
time and her oldest son, William, was married that year in April.

Eventually Catherine traveled between her sons’ and daughters’ homes,
living for a time with each, although a room was kept for her on the home
place. She also spent considerable time with her son, William, after the
death of his wife in 1920, helping to raise his four daughters. Catherine must
have been a very strong-willed, hard working woman. All of her children
learned how to work at an early age.

Catherine died on September 15, 1928, and thereafter each year in September,
a family reunion is held, including the descendants of the ten children. This
year, 1978, marks the 50th anniversary of the family reunions and the church
at Beemont, which Catherine and William helped establish, seems an appropriate
place for this celebration.

Description: A town in the west central part of Union Township. The post office had been established since 1857. It was named for some members of the Jeffries family. According to Eaton, it was Elisha Betts Jeffries (1827-1855), a wealthy Virginian who held many offices in Franklin County. While serving as a member of the state legislature, he lost his life in the Gasconade Bridge disaster on November 1, 1855, and the Legislature appropriated $150 to mark his grave at Krakow (q.v.). Kiel declares, on the other hand, that the town is supposed to be named for Achilles Whitehead Jeffries, an early settler and a friend and neighbor of George Fink, the first postmaster. He came to Franklin County from Warren County, North Carolina, in 1819, and was county sheriff in 1834. A number of other people named Jeffries lived in the neighborhood. Notes:

Elnora Florence Knehans Stotts was the youngest daughter of German immigrants, Gustav William and Amelia Kathrina Knehans whose native language was German.. She was born on the family homestead near Beemont, Missouri on January 25, 1914. Her grandparents donated the land for the Beemont Zion Methodist Episcopal Church and her many years of service to the Methodist Church began there. She had two older sisters, Alma and Clara. As a young teenager, Elnora left home to work in St Louis, graduated fom Dotson High School and then worked for the Missouri Department of Health.

Elnora received her Bachelor of Arts from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas in 1947, and continued her higher education at the Methodist National Training School in Kansas City in preparation for foreign missionary service. She attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and learned Chinese. However, political unrest in China caused her to be assigned to the Phillipines; First Methodist Church in Baldwin City was her sponsoring church. Elnora taught at mission schools for five years until her long-time friend, Rev. Miles H. Stotts proposed marriage by sending an engagement ring in the mail and asking Bishop Valencia to release her from mission service in order that she might return to the US and become the wife of a Methodist minister.

Elnora married Miles H. Stotts on December 5, 1952. Miles passed on November 12, 2002. They had two children, Miles Hargrove Stotts II and Kathrina Belle (Stotts) Juby, and five grandchildren, Amy and Sara Stotts and Andrew, Adam and Alex Juby. Miles and Elnora served six Methodist churches in Missouri and Kansas until his retirement in 1968. They returned to Baldwin City and their beloved Baker University and remained active in First Methodist Church for 25 years. Elnora was a life-long member of the United Methodist Women and served as President of the UMW at Baldwin First. In 1993 they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas to be closer to their family. She lived at the Graber House in Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson until her death on June 20, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Reverend Mark Conard presiding. Graveside services were held at 6:00 PM Saturday at the Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, Kansas. Friends were able to sign the register book from 9AM to 9PM Thursday and 9AM to 5PM Friday at Penwelll-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the World Missions, in care of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Ruth A. Harre, 77 of Auburn passed on to heaven Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 at her home.

She was born Aug. 13, 1940 in St. Louis, the daughter of William and Gladys Heseman Schoder.

She married Richard R. Harre on July 31, 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson, MO.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, sister in law, Margene Reves, three brothers in law, Bill Harre, Ken Harre, and Kevin Harre, and one niece Traci Pelczinski.

Ruth graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis and then went to Concordia University in Chicago receiving her bachelor degree in education. She worked for Lutheran Grade Schools, Auburn Elementary School, and the Hope Institute in Springfield. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, Trinity Lutheran Women’s Guild, Trinity Choir, and Girls Night Out. Ruth enjoyed traveling, golfing, and visiting with family and friends in her free time.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. Richard R. Harre; two sons, Mike Harre of Kankakee and Jeff (Janelle) Harre of Dunlap; four grandchildren, Samantha, Kaden, Katelyn, and Lucas; seven sisters in law, Midge Harre, Cindy Harre, Sue Harre, Marilyn (Syl) Stiegman, Marcile (Ron) Jack, Phyllis (Rodney) Silger, and Deb (Brad) Meyer; one brother in law, Daniel (Barbara) Harre; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. till time of services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Martin Kaufmann officiating.

Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr Glennon A. Engelbrecht 69 of Lohman Mo. passed away Frida February 15, 2013 at St Mary's Health Center.

He was born on June 1, 1943 in Owensville Mo. the son of Arthur a Ruth (Moore)Engelbrecht, both deceased. He was married on June 27, 1964 in Owensvile Mo. to Virginia L.Barton, who survives of the home.

After graduating from Bland High School in 1961. Glennon worked at Proctor and Gamble and General Motors in St Louis. He then attended the University of Missouri in Rolla for two years and completed his degree at Lincoln University with a bachelors degree in Buisness Administration,

Glennon was employed with the State of Missouri for over 15 years in various departments. He started his employment in the Comptroller's Office, then served in the Department of Revenue and later with the Public Service Commission. After his employment with the state, he went back to Lincoln University and obtained a Masters in Education in 1988. He became a physical science teacher at the Simonsen 9t grade center with the Jefferson City Public School for 10 years. He retired in 206 after five years as a guard with the Missouri Department of Corrections. After his retirement he worked part time at the Nuclear Plant in Reform Mo.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City wMo.

Glennon was a joy to his family ad will be greatly missed. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, traveling, fishing, and being with his family.

Other survivors include two sons, G.Scott Engelbrecht and wife Julie(McKittrick)of Town and Country Mo. and Jeffrey Engelbrecht and wife Tia Lisa (Putman)of Chattanoogna TN. one sister Wanda (Engelbrecht)Jett of Bland Mo, four grandchildren, Hannah Engelbrecht, Tiara Engelbecht, Savannah Engelbecht and Christian Engelbrecht all of Chattanooga TN. two step grandchildren, Sarah Gibbs and Caroline Gibbs of Town and Country Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City Mo. from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday February 13, 2013.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11a.m. Saturday February 23, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tony Alter officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery.
