DNA has shown that John E Tucker is the father of Hettie and Kizzie. Family descendants believe he raped Nancy and fathered the two girls. Kizzie was born while she was married to Munceford Underwood. Both girls assumed Munceford's last name.
In April 1893 , Munceford was sentenced to prison 5 years for 2nd degree manslaughter. His sentence commuted to the Asylum in Fulton, MO by the Governor. He escaped from the Asylum, moved to Amarillo, Texas and changed his name to Charles Henry Smith. He married Sarah D. Evelyn Vermillion 23 Dec 1894. They had 5 sons and 2 daughters. He was a farmer near Amarillo.
From Gloria Jean Griffitts:
So who are the parents of Kizzie and Hettie, according to DNA? John E Tucker ( 1968-1934) and Nancy A (Sisk) Underwood (1873-1921) per history first then confirmed by DNA a number of years ago.
What was Munceford in jail for in January 1893? Nine months prior to Kizzie's birth? The murder he was arrested for did not occur until March 1893. I was thinking of the spring time when all the mess occurred and not looking at records so I should have stated, Munson/Munceford was most likely incarnated at the time of Kizzie’s conception, which may or may not be factual. If it is valid it would have been late Feb not Jan, I believe was what I was thinking but again only a thought.
Why would Kizzie Bone’s DC list her parents as Munceford Underwood and Nancy Sisk? Let me explain a bit about this. My great uncle was a rapist. He raped and impregnated Nancy in mention and she had three children by him, next is Evaline Sisk who bore two of his children,. John also raped my grandmother and she had one child and her sister who bore one child. Seven children in total that we know of now. Much of this was hidden due to shame and was not confirmed until the inception of DNA, in fact there was no other way to confirm these stories until that time.
Many of the girls in the family were sent away early with other family members to keep them safe from him [John]. My mother was one of them.
Some of these children had no clue what had happened until much later in life. Some died never knowing who there father was, like Hettie (Sisk) Moss.
I was told the story first, by my aunt, when I was about 18 yrs old and when I was a bit older I started talking with family about all of this and was told about the “Curse of the red hair”! Each of these lineages of the rapes had at least one child or grandchild with red hair as John E Tucker had vivid red hair and I found it to be completely true and lives on today.
Why was John E Tucker not stopped or arrested is the big question. All we can think of is women in general had very few rights and in some case were no more than common property thus were used as so, as sad as that was.
Floyd was Nancy’s third and we think last child. He had his father's vivid red hair.
Hilda never had any children that any of us know of.
I have many records for these people but many are very oversized ledgers pages and are not the best quality for reprints and home scanning. If you need to documented proof I suggest you contact of visit Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City, Mo and they can provide the needed data for a very nominal fee or email them and they will scan data as well for a small fee.
