Obituary.
A beautiful life closed its earthly course when Mrs. Carrie [Orra] May Lewis went home to abide with the saints of God in heaven.
Sister Lewis was born April 18, 1886, near Annapolis, Mo., in Iron County, and passed on to her permanent home June 23, 1923, at the Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, aged 37 years, 2 months, and 5 days. Sister Lewis was the daughter of Mrs. Evelyn Brewer of Annapolis, and was united in marriage to Mr. James Lewis on Nov. 14, 1906. To this union were born two sons. She professed conversion at about the age of 16 years and united at that time with the General Baptist Church. She was a faithful worker in this church for a number of years. Later a Presbyterian Sunday School was organized in the settlement where Brother and Sister Lewis were living near Des Arc, Mo., and they both became regular attendants and faithful workers in the Sunday School. When the church building was erected and the Covenant Presbyterian Church organized there in 1920, they became charter members of this church. Sister Lewis was a faithful worker in both church and Sunday School. She was a talented musician and was perfectly happ
Sister Lewis suffered much all during her life, but she was always patient and cheerful. Her one thought during her brief illness following the operation in the hospital was that she would soon regain her strength so that she could return home and be with her husband and boys, but she was ready at all times to be submissive to the Divine will. She was greatly loved by all who knew her.
The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church in Des Arc, on Sunday afternoon, June 24th, by Rev. R. T. Fulton, her pastor, and a talk was made by Rev. John Alcorn. A large assembly of friends and loved ones were present. She leaves to mourn for her a broken-hearted husband, two sons, Orville, age 16, and Dorwin, age 14, her aged mother, one brother J. E. Brewer, of Farmington, Mo., and many other friends and loved ones.
Her prayers and sweet council in the home and in the church will remain in the memory of those who knew and loved her.
R. T. FULTON.
