  Notes	Find A Grave Memorial# 71142772 Sheriff of Iron Co Missouri elected in 1902 and again in 1904. Was shot and killed by William Jr, his brother Arthur, and their mother Mary E Spaugh on May 25, 1905 at the Spaugh home. Sheriff Polk had come to arrest William Spaugh Jr for assault and battery of an Edgar family teenager which had occurred about 20 minutes earlier in a local Ironton resturant. Murder trial went all the way to the Missouri Surpreme Court where convictions for all three were upheld. Later, Mary was granted another trial and was found not guilty and was not imprisoned. Wm Jr was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death. It was later changed to life in prison. Both men died in the Missouri State pen of Tuberculosis.
